Exclusive Vanilla Ice Interview!

Vanilla Ice gives us his top renovating tips and tells us what he has up his sleeve for season two of The Vanilla Ice Project.

What made you start this project?

“I’ve been doing home renovation for 16 years but this is the first time we’ve put a camera to it. It’s a very informative home make over show in every aspect. I’ve seen these other make over shows where people really don’t have any experience. This isn’t that type of show. It’s just me being me and my crew of guys and we know what we’re doing. I never in a million years expected it to be so fun to watch.”

What was the biggest challenge?

“There are a lot of things that are difficult but I’ve done it so many times that I’m used to it. I have a home building company so I build homes from scratch, from ground zero up. Th Palm Beach house was a mess but it was such a great thing to bring it back to life. The attic which we turned into a home theatre was a challenging job. I didn’t know that the floor wasn’t stable to walk on so I tore the whole thing up and thought, “Oh my god, this is going to cost a lot more than we thought.”

What has happened to the Palm Beach house now?

“I ended up selling the house for almost $200,000 over the expected value. It was more than I even expected, so it turned about to be just fantastic.”

Are launching a second series?

“Yes, we’re starting that next month in May. I’m here in England right now but when I get home, we go right into filming that. In this series I have a 10,000 square foot mansion, it’s on three acres and the backyard is two acres. We’re going to turn this backyard into the most awesome tropical paradise with a lake and river. So you can take your pina colada and your umbrella and take a cruise through the vast landscape and then you go through a cave with fibre optic lights ... it will be awesome!”

What are your tips for renovator/investors?

“Location, location, location.”

What’s happening on the music front?

“I have a new record. It’s like Prodigy meets Lady Gaga meets Vanilla Ice. It was a lot of fun. It’s called WTF which stands for Wisdom, Tenacity and Focus.”

Will we see you out in Australia soon?

“Yeah it should be out in the next few months. I have information about it on vanillaice.com and I’m always tweeting about it.”

We’ll have to get you to renovate one of our Aussie houses!

“That would be a lot of fun. I love it a lot there. I’ve got lots of friends in Australia. I came back to Coogee Beach on New Years and just really enjoyed it.”

We hear you have a new movie coming out?

“Absolutely. It’s called “I Hate My Dad” and it’s going to a very funny movie. I play a leading role. I’m Adam Sandler’s best friend. It’s not my first movie role. I was in “The New Guy” with Tony Hawke and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles but this is my first leading role.”

How was Adam Sandler to work with?

“Adam Sandler is a great guy... Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison... they were awesome though. I really really loved working with him.”

How’s the reponse been to The Vanilla Ice Project?

“I haven’t heard a negative reponse whatsoever. I think it shows a side of me that people don’t really know. It’s let everyone into my personal world. I’m really entertained by the show – I have the series with me on DVD and I can’t get enough of it. I’m thinking, ‘Wow, I did that!’”
