Throughout their nine-year relationship, the Strawbridge's have been through it all.
In the last nine years, Angel and Dick Strawbridge have lived more of a colourful life than most do in their lifetimes. Since meeting through their agent in 2000, the couple have bought a house together in Brighton, started several businesses, had two children and made the ultimate leap when they gambled their life savings on an 18th-century chateau in disrepair.
Since moving their troupe to the north of France, they've renovated their 45-room chateau by hand, hosted their own wedding and raised their two young children in a new culture.
While these events could have been enough to split any pair, Angel and Dick reveal that it's being madly in love that keeps them afloat.
"We have… passionate discussions every day," Angel tells the You magazine. "But doesn’t everybody? Because if you’re madly in love, in the core, then the passionate discussions are just the fluff around the outside. We’re not arguing about values – just the little details."
And that's how they work. Neither Angel or Dick sweat the small stuff, which is what they learnt from the beginning of their relationship.
"I was over 50 when I met Angel," Dick reveals."And I didn’t ask her age because that was a scary thing to do. Our agent had introduced us because we had a similar work ethic." Dick had been separated for six years by the time he met the glamorous designer, but he had no idea what was coming for him.
"So Angel and I had our fun, then I told her it was time for her find a young man, have children, because I felt I shouldn’t keep her from that. And what she said, bloody woman, was that she actually wanted me."
The romantic gesture from Angel only confirmed his own feelings: "You’re a long time dead. Why wouldn’t you just jump in and live life?"
And that's what they've done. The couple have jumped in head first to their chateau which they've lovingly restored to the most picturesque setting you could ever imagine. But they've still got a long way to go.
"I’m permanently knackered!," Dick says. "But it doesn’t stop me, because there’s lots to be done, and when you’ve decided to do it, do it.
"People always say to us, 'You’re an engineer and Angel’s a designer so you can live like that.' I hear lots of excuses but not many good reasons for not jumping into life and doing what we do. We do more during the day than most people, because we have a passion for what we do and for our life."
And while many think they're lucky to live a fairytale lifestyle, Dick has one thing to say: "The harder you work, the luckier you get."
