Dinner Party Decor to Suit the Season

Decorate your dining area to suit the summer season with these dinner party design inspiration tips.

Let the warm weather inspire you this summer when it comes time to entertain the masses. It's the perfect time to host people over at your house for drinks and dinner, so boot up the barbecue and look at these tips for decorating your dining area.

Colours of the Season

When it comes time to plan the colour scheme for your dinner party, there's a lot to consider. Napkins, place settings, dinnerware, drinks and table decorations can all be themed to suit whatever design you choose.

Outdoor settings look fantastic when brightened up with jewel tones like purple, emerald and deep pink. Start with an outdoor table in a neutral shade of wood or white then light it up with candles, flowers and tableware in all the colours of the rainbow.

Get Beachy

Beach-themed designs always work well in summer, so look for shades of blue, white and pale yellow to inject a surfer vibe into your setting. Striped cushions on bench seats add a nautical touch, while anchor napkin holders are a subtle way to carry the theme through to your place settings.

You could even fill up glass votives with sand and then place large candles on top when the sun goes down. Match with cool cocktails and refreshing chilled beer and your guests will be relaxing before you know it.

Picnics and Alternative Settings

For a twist on the traditional table and chair setup, why not put a rug down on the grass and scatter cushions for guests to recline on? Add a carafe of a breezy summer cocktail, some uplifting music and plenty of finger food for a picnic with a difference.

For those with a real taste of adventure, take the dining table away from the house and into a field, park or beach. You may need council clearance to do this, so double check before you plan your destination dinner, but the result will be worth it.
