Creating An Outdoor Room

Indoor-outdoor living is part of the Aussie way of life and creating an outdoor room is a perfect way to make the most of your home’s space.

When you’ve got an enormous terrace like this, the biggest problem is how to best divide it up and furnish it, without breaking the budget.

A cost-effective and eco-friendly way is to use plants to define the different areas. These large mature Bismark palms add drama and vertical accent. And I’ve used fan palms as an attractive backdrop; they’re a great way to screen off an area.

Outdoor furniture completes the look. Think about what you want to use the garden space for. You might want a dining area as well as a lounge area.

At the Darwin property, I used furniture to create different zones for lounging and outdoor dining… But if your garden is sloping, you can use terraces to create outdoor rooms.
