How long have you been lighting your house?
Why do you do it?
“We love seeing the joy and happiness it brings to other people. It helps people relax and appreciate the simple things in life.”
Do you need to have electrical experience? If not, how did you learn to do it?
“No you don’t need electrical experience, just common sense and lots of power boards.”
How long does it take to put up and take down the lights?
“It takes a week to put up the lights and a day to take them down”
Where do you store them all?
“In our garage.”
Total number of lights/wattage?
“Thousands of lights, too many to count!”
How many lights do you add each year?
“A couple of new sets of lights to fit in with our theme for that year.”
oughly how much would you spend on new lights annually?
“We spend between $500.00 - $1000.00. We also get help from friends who have lights and are not using them in their theme.”
Where are some great places to buy lights from?
“We buy our lights from the Christmas Warehouse in Botany Road, Alexandria. It has great variety and good value.”
What do the lights add to your energy bill?
“Next to nothing and if it means offering people happiness, then there is no price to it.”
Any special features that set your lights apart?
“We don’t have any special features; we just try to make a slight change each year so it all still looks and fits together.”
What are the most popular elements of your display?
“Speaking to the children that come past; their favourite things seem to be the presents that are lit up on verandah and the bubble machine.”
What are your personal favourite light/s?
“I like the lights that are in the shape of presents wrapped in organza. Brian likes them all!”
Is it competitive amongst the neighbours?
“No, we all help each other and have a special community spirit”
What decorative tips do you have for someone who wants to start lighting their house?
“Start with a theme; it makes it easier when you go shopping because it stops you from getting carried away with the large amount of choice.”
What safety tips do you have for someone who wants to start lighting their house?
“Make sure you only use outdoor waterproof lights for the exterior. Lights that are not waterproof should be kept inside or under cover.”
