Don't get left in the dark when it comes to renovating your bathroom this year. Take a look at these top trends to ensure this room looks as great as the rest of your home.
When you renovate your home, you often look to the experts to gather decorating tips to ensure you get the best possible results. But how often do you seek out bathroom tips?
Your bathroom is often neglected when it comes to renovations, but it's one of the most frequently used rooms in the house and as such surely deserves a spruce up. And now it's even easier to turn this room into a sanctuary. Let the 2014 National Kitchen & Bath Association Design Trends Survey guide your renovation process.
According to the study, the trend for bathrooms has shifted away from traditional designs through to contemporary options. Grey is expected to be the fastest growing colour scheme in bathrooms this year, while beige and bone were the most popular last year. White fixtures and polished chrome faucets are also common options.
Of the designers who responded to the survey, 64 per cent placed a soaking bathtub in the master bathroom, and many believe this trend will accelerate further this year. Free-standing, non-jetted bathtubs are the preferred choice.
Lighting in showers is expected to be big this year, and 70 per cent placed benches or seats inside the shower. If you're looking to stay ahead of the pack this year, follow their lead and put a resting place in your shower, as well as underfloor heating to keep your feet warm while you change after bathing.
Interestingly, whirlpools are outpacing steam showers in master bathrooms, and the demand for these steamy machines is expected to increase in 2014.
Other bathroom features in demand include ceramic or porcelain floor tiles, quartz vanity tops, linen storage cabinets, open shelving, wall-hung floating vanities and under mount sinks.
