Apartment Living Tips

Is your home suffering from small-space syndrome? Simply follow three simple tips to maximising space without compromising your design aesthetic:

1. Double Duty…

With living space of the essence, combining kitchen and outdoor areas act helps the flow of space. For those who love to entertain, don’t forget that your kitchen island can double as both a prep space and a bar for guests.

2. Large Scale…

The smart use of scale can enhance spatial perception, and can add an element of surprise without overcomplicating the aesthetic. Instead of the usual ‘sofa, armchair, bookcase and coffee table’ combination, implement a highly edited collection of large-scale pieces – it can be surprisingly effective in a small space.

3. Lift it up …

Use every available opportunity to lift furniture and fittings off the floor. By doing so, your eye travels further giving you a sense of extra space. An easy and inexpensive way to incorporate this in the kitchen is to use mirrored panels for the under-cupboard kickboards and above the splashback, as this will visually stretch the available space.
