Interior Design expert, Tara Dennis, provides her top tips to help you make the most of your bathroom.
One of the easiest and most affordable ways to achieve a fresh look for your bathroom is by de-cluttering. Take charge of those old medicines, half used beauty products and find better ways to store your essentials. I store mine in a pair of baskets on a high shelf.
Things I need daily are within easy reach and hidden away when not in use. I also store soap in a lidded glass vase which is both practical and beautiful and stack towels in a wire basket beside the bath for a hotel look.
So, don’t be hasty, either throw out old items or store them wisely. SmartBox is an efficient and hassle-free storage solution that cuts out double handling often associated with moving, by combining moving and storage. It’s easy and takes the stress out of having to move. When you want to jump back in your box, simply call them up within 24 hours and they’ll drive your unit back.
2) CHEAT A NEW LOOK
With so many clever products on the market, it's easy to cheat a new look without major renovations. A tired laminate vanity bench can be refinished with Rust-oleum Countertop Transformations. For around $200 you can achieve the look of stone in a variety of colours.
For tiles try White Knight Tile Paint which can be tinted to your colour choice. For a fresh, modern look white is hard to beat.
Replace an old water damaged vanity unit with a new wall mounted style. By leaving the floor space open beneath the vanity, the floor area appears larger and gives the illusion of more space in the room.
3) ENHANCE SMALL DETAILS
You use your bathroom daily so make the most of it. If space allows, add a small TV or radio, framed art, fresh flowers or a potted plant. Small details can make a very big difference and help you to start and finish your day on a good note.
4) ADD EXTRA HANGING SPACE
If drilling into tiles or walls is an issue, use Command Hooks from 3M to hang robes and extra hand towels. The hooks simply stick on and can be removed without damaging the surface, perfect for renters.
5) NEW LINEN
Invest in new towels and keep to a colour theme. White is always fresh but if you crave colour, choose brights to accent and give your bathroom a real lift.
