10 New Bathroom Trends

Reece explains the tops trends in bathroom for 2011.

Black and White

The contrast of black against white has become the ultimate statement in the bathroom. For dramatic monochrome effect, the addition of bold black products in an otherwise crisp white bathroom is sure to make your bathroom stand out.

Powder Room

The powder room is fast becoming the ‘it’ bathroom in the Australian home. Product designers are responding to this societal trend, with many product ranges now including ‘mini’ or space saving products to suit powder rooms.

Organic

The new direction is to feature product shapes that emulate the soft, gentle curves inspired by nature. This can be witnessed in the range of elegant, curvy basins and tapware ranges that have come onto the market.

Neoclassic

We are seeing a contemporary interpretation of a classic style. Old is meeting new with art deco inspired products reaching the market. Ornate features and elegant patterns and textures are prominent.

Eco

The bathroom has never been greener, with Australians embracing water-efficient products. Many Australian bathrooms are also literally turning green, with pieces of art, furniture or plants being used to heighten the sense of rejuvenation.

Open Spaces

Wide, open bathing spaces are now prominent, leaving enough space for statement pieces, such as a freestanding bath or twin rail shower. As a result the bathroom has become an extension of the living spaces in the home.

Traditional

The timeless Edwardian style has resurfaced and has been embraced by Australian consumers due to its elegant glamour.

Minimalist

This highly contemporary trend is still prominent in the modern bathroom. ‘Less is more’ is the rule. Stark, geometric lines and shapes are the preferred product style.

Day Spa

The notion of ‘bathroom-as-day-spa’ is as prominent as ever with warm tones and natural materials being used to create the ultimate rejuvenation haven in the home. Cascade yourself in free-flowing water with the simple addition of a luxurious shower.

Family

It is now all about creating a bathroom that is suitable for all ages. So we are seeing easy- to-use mixer tapware and stylish grab rails for the elderly as well as child-friendly thermostatic mixers to ensure the little ones are safe.
