Johanna Griggs

The former World ranked backstroker was one of Australia's youngest Commonwealth Games swimmers. She was just 16 years old when selected for the Auckland Commonwealth Games. She represented Australia for a number of years, winning Bronze at the Auckland Games in 1990 in the 100m Backstroke. She also won a Silver Medal in the Medley Relay at the 1991 World Championships in Perth. Johanna was the first Australian (female) swimmer to break the 30-second barrier for the 50m backstroke.

After announcing her retirement from swimming in May 1993, Johanna joined the Seven Network. She reported for shows such as Sportsworld and Sydney Weekender, and hosted The AFL Half Time Show. In 1994 and 1995, Johanna hosted Seven's Summer of Tennis, and worked as a commentator and presenter of the 1994 World Swimming Championships from Rome. Later that year Johanna presented the Weekend Sports News and then became Channel Seven's first national female (and youngest ever) sports presenter.

Johanna took time out to care for her two sons, returning to television in 1998. She was a regular panellist on Foxtel's Beauty and the Beast. She was also a regular guest on ABC TV's sports panel show, The Fat and Good News Week.

She hosted the opening of Stadium Australia and the opening of Fox Studios for Foxtel in 1999.

Johanna returned to the Seven Network in 2000 and together with Andrew Daddo hosted 'Olympic Sunrise' during the Sydney Olympic Games.

Since 2001 Johanna has hosted the Adidas International, which in that year became the Medibank International, the Australian Open, and The Australian Surf Life Saving Championships. In 2002 and 2003 she also hosted the Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Iron Man Series.

In 2001 Johanna began hosting the Sunday morning live sports show, `Sportsworld', which is Australia's longest running sports show.

Johanna hosted the coverage of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games for the Seven Network, the first time an Australian woman solely hosted an Olympic's coverage.

That year she also hosted Manchester Breakfast as part of the Seven Network's coverage of the 2002 Commonwealth Games and became host of Seven's new home program Auction Squad.

During 2003, Johanna continued her hosting commitments with `Sportsworld', The Australian Surf Life Saving Championships, The Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival, Auction Squad, Davis Cup and renovation show 'House Calls To The Rescue'.

In 2004 Johanna continued hosting Auction Squad, Sportsworld and the 2004 Athens Olympic Games and was a presenter on Seven's coverage of The Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

2005 saw Johanna combining her`Sportsworld', and `Better Homes and Gardens' hosting roles with her other sport commitments including hosting the Medibank International, Australian Open broadcasts, the World Gymnastic Championships in Melbourne and once again frocking up for the Spring Racing Carnival.

Last year (2006) got off to a busy start for Johanna who once again hosted the Medibank International, and Australian Open broadcasts before heading over to Torino in Italy where she fronted Seven's coverage as host of the 20th Olympic Winter Games.

Johanna was again involved as presenter at the 2006 Melbourne Cup Carnival and returns as host at the Medibank Sydney International over Summer 2007 as well as the Australian Open.

Griggs annoys the hell out of me. Like so many other lemming commentators who think it's trendy to speak like that idiot Sandra Sully (the greatest sullier of the English language in recent history), she sounds as though she is speaking English as- a- second -language. She can't get through a single sentence without stopping after every word and mis-emphasising most of them. For God's sake, spare us the listening agony and send her to retraining, so that we hear conversational speaking, not staccato trendoid speak! It's appalling and unacceptable and it must STOP!!!!
