ABOUT: The Dedes are a fun loving family. Christine lives with her partner Martin, her four kids and 12 pets.
The Dedes have no rules or routine in the house and Christine is very laid back. The kids can go to bed whenever they want and don’t do chores or help out unless their parents complain. Mikey (13) charges $50 if he has to clean.
Christine wears the pants in the house and has the final say in family decisions, ‘I don’t like being told what to do or to be spoken down to.’
The Dedes are very social and they always have visitors around during the week. As a family they go out for Karaoke every weekend, ‘my family are the love of my life. They are great kids even though they can be a bit of a handful.’
WIFE: Christine (40) was raised as a Greek Orthodox. She learnt how to read coffee cups from her grandmother in Greece and she can also do psychic readings. Christine used to be a beauty therapist and her girlfriends visit her for their waxing and coffee cup readings.
Rather than doing scheduled housework, Christine tends to follow her daughter Elektra (3) around the house - picking up after her and putting clothes and toys away.
Christine hates making school lunches so she gives the children $10 each for lunch instead. She doesn’t make the kids do their homework, ‘I ask them if they have any and they say yes, but I’m not a mum who says “sit down, do your homework”.’
HUSBAND: Martin (45) is laid back and works full time for a hiring company. When he comes home from work at 5.00pm Christine’s ‘shift’ is over and his is on. At home, he takes on the role of the maid, the butler and the chauffeur.
Martin loves cooking and whips up the majority of meals during the week. Sometimes he ends up cooking three different meals as the kids are very fussy and he accommodates to their tastes.
CHILDREN: Ellen (19) is a university student. Sabrina (14) is always on the phone or computer. Mikey (13) is a computer whiz and Elektra (3) is the baby of the family.
PETS: Six birds that fly around the house (Christine cleans up after them), a kitten, three dogs and two fish, ‘I think it’s awful when kids aren’t allowed to have pets.’
