About the show

Have you ever wondered whether the grass is greener on the other side of the fence? From moody teenagers and spoilt children to errant husbands and trophy wives, this series gives a whole new meaning to domestic bliss and lifts the lid on what it means to be Australian in the 21st century. WIFE SWAP AUSTRALIA is not a competition or a contest. It is a reality show unlike any other, where the battlegrounds are the kitchens and living rooms, child-rearing is a subject of intense and heated debate, and the outcome isn’t a cash prize, but a couple’s opportunity to re-discover why they love each other and decided to marry in the first place. With its mirror on Australian domestic lives, this series sees sparks fly as two wives from radically different families swap places for a week. It’s not just the wives that need to get used to a new family, but the husbands and children are given a wake-up call too as they have to adapt to new house routines.

Next showing: Sivkova and Mansell Wednesday, 6 June 10:30pm

Oh my gosh. Cindy! Well done!!! You did a great job. Don't listen to all the hate! What horrible things they have said. Whatever happend to Aussies being kind hearted and accepting?? I work in a Catholic School and I see what teenage girls wear - high waisted shorts, who cares! We have all worn something that someone somewhere hasn't liked at some stage. No biggie. Also - regular viewers would know wife swap is about showing diversity between families. Surely both families are aware of this before entering. I'm sure people must know that their is alot of editing in these shows too! Things are made out to be more dramatic than they actually are.

wow christine should be spending her money on a psycologist and fixing her obsessive compulsive cleaning disorder.that is not a normal environment to bring kids into.theres more to life than wasting water doing 7 loads of clean clothes to wash.it is clearly taking over her life as a mother and wife.I was like that for sometime and had to look at myself and change things.

OMG that girl can waste some money! I used to be a promo model as well, im a saty at home mum and i would never spend that much money on nothingness. All you have in 10 years time is no investments but a garbage bag of false eye lashes with spending like that. And you can see that its a waste look at that house! Nice clothes small house. Think girl think!

Hello Cindy, you are so funny - you have the best sense of humour! I agree I've done a little preaching - but anyway, I really do mean it when I say I pray that your life be blessed! Take it or leave it. I'm not wrapped up in my own self-importance - just wanted you to know that just because you become a Christian doesn't make you a bore, you would still have that incredible sense of humour and love of life - & do amazing things - just coz one family plays board games and is not so inspiring doesn't mean that this is the way all Christians live ie boring as bat doo. Good grief we don't all go live on remote properties so we can control our families and nail our husband's boots to the floor in case he gets the urge for a beer. We weren't put on this earth to live like robots, we are here to enjoy everything around us - lucky you living in an area that is as you said like 'paradise' - one good thing God did hey? Anyway, don't blow us all up Cindy, there's some good ones out there, would we like you to know Jesus - well yes, of course because it is a wonderful way to live. But God gave everyone the 'choice'. If you have never slapped your kids Cindy what an incredible mum you are - to love your children by respecting them that much - that shows great self control and love. I wasn't anything you mentioned I'm just a 5th Gen Average Aussie girl with an ordinary family. Not running from anything, not born in to Christianity, it's just that Christ must have wanted us and found his way in to our lives. If you are looking for God & answers, and the meaning of it all in a tangible way, then you'll find it. Did you ever think that just maybe your being on the show, especially with Christians and having some interaction as we are - is Jesus gently knocking on your door? That just maybe he loves you and that this is his way of letting you know you are so worthy and loved! Maybe enter might enter your mind that you need to look in to it more. I hope and pray you do - don't freak out, it's only a prayer. :) God Bless ya.

It will not worry Christians if you like us or not - we are here to please God. Please take a look at the reads in this column? - does it look like feedback that is caring, kind, encouraging - it looks like a hate fest to me. We are a Christian nation still at this point. Rev Johnson was given the 1,500 souls aboard the First Fleet to minister to - he rowed from boat to boat at ports to comfort & encourage the men & women destined for this colony. I think you do need to check your history books - pretty much everything we are stemmed from Christianity - our schools our hospitals... My husband is from the part of the world Jesus walked in & he's not black - but - does that matter? Over there people don't discriminate about you being dark skinned -however the Christians are a minority there & they are discriminated against by Muslims. >>"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Jesus (from Matthew 5:11 Bible)<<< 2.1 billion people believe in Jesus - are they all walking round like saints - no, but their foundation is built on forgiveness, they are called to love, be joyful, be peace makers, have forbearance, show kindness, goodness & faithfulness. Look at what you are doing to each other - you are judging each other with pure hatred & you are enjoying it. This comes from the darkness in your souls - where is your love for humanity? Jesus came for sick - ie the sick inspirit & soul. Its really sad to think that people have the impression that if you become a Christian you are somehow a loser of some sort - i love the song "Always a winner" by Pete Murray" - Christ is always a winner - check it out a great song. If you have give yourself to Jesus you are a winner. I prayed for you Cindy - you're an awesome mum, with a great husband & kids - you put yourself out there & I'm sure some of the things being said must hurt. I prayed that your family has happiness, good health & harmony. God bless.

    March 2012

This was an interesting one, both wives annoyed me at some stage and both families had their issues, however their alternative lives worked for each family. Yolanda's children seemed more creativly minded, cheekiness and naughtiness is part of a free thinking mind testing the limits, they can't be smacked too much. And Cindy's kids where totally different but happy. And no way would I let my daughter wear those shorts up her bum like that doesn't mean she isn't a nice kid. It's a shame people miss the opportunity to be accepting and find some personal growth in these experiences. I don't think I would want to sleep in someone else's house for that long. Hat goes off

    • cindy

when this conversation was on the table, i questioned why a mother can shower every day and the father every day but the 3 daughters are only allowed 2 or 3 showers a week????? Cleanliness is next to Godliness........ that is not wives in training....... also they dont do any housework at all......maybe wives just shower and look at themselves in the mirror above the kitchen sink for 10 hours every day...boring as bat *** and dumb as dog ***.....

  • Stacey295
    March 2012

Ps. I think that Yolanda came across as pious & little judgmental - something most Christians would NOT want to pride themselves on. I can speak from my family of five's experience having only decided to become Christian a few years back is that - We are humbly grateful to have our faith in God & we go out in to the world to serve others - to do all we can selflessly. When you accept Christ you accept the holy spirit within & through Christ's eyes you see all that is evil & and sick with the world. I use to swear before accepting Christ but now when I hear swearing it literally chills me to the core, why? Because the spirit within is repulsed by the evil. But a loving Christian is not going to judge or condemn but love & honor everyone with God's help. Everyone is made in his image but only a few find the narrow gate & the truth. I pray that Cindy & her family let Jesus in to their life - he would LOVE them forever! Both lovely ladies both worthy of all of God's love. We are not here to please people but to please our God in heaven - this is how we are se FREE.

Praise to the lord, now I feel like Im in church. Hate to tell you, the Bible is the word of man, he wrote it. MY religion is way older than yours, your religion has many branches, I believe if there is one god therefore there should be one religion. I see mine everynight, and why is it that Jesus is portrayed white? If he was born where he was supposed to have been born, hed be bloody black!! And Australia was not built up by religious factions, we are Ockers and true aussies were basically immigrants courtesy of her majesty ie convicts or odd immigrants settling. Have you never been to Port Arthur??

  • Stacey295
    March 2012

Firstly on the comment from Putzi it is in the bible -----Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them. (Proverbs 13:24 Bible) ---- That doesn't mean that all Christians believe in this form of discipline ie using an actual rod - of course there's better ways to deal with their Children's bad behavior. Why on Earth would anyone think Christian children would be instantly angelic - for heanen's sake they're kids! They are in a home however that if they are following Christ's teachings will have built their foundation on love, respect, honoring each other, kindness and a commitment to kook outward to the needs of others - that to be totally self absorbed & caught up in passing fads & fashions that lead to nothing is pointless. True & lasting contentment, peace & happiness comes from believing & sharing that faith with other believers & non-believers. Deborah - agreed no one wants to see children beaten - even Jesus said "anyone who hurts one of these little ones hurts me" ! Jesus is real & no one goes to our maker except through him. The Bible is the voice of God. Australia is a Christian country founded on a beautiful faith that sadly has been set aside - if only you would look & see what your forefathers believed in & how that made us such a good & decent society - which from what you can see is slowing decaying through lack of care & direction.

okay, here is some more ......the reason why i told the little one to stop putting her fingers in her ears and crying like that is because i told her she had to have a shower........ maybe she is scared of having a shower when daddy puts her to bed..........

How unbearable was Yolanda with her sanctimonious attitude?? She may feel that she is of a superior moral standing than everyone else, due to her christianality, but really all she managed to do was come across as a narrow-minded, judgemental, uptight, boring woman. If there really was a god I'm sure he would save us from her!

  • Putzi
    March 2012

I could not believe in 2012 Australia a woman stated proudly she is raising her children to be wives. I have daughters, and I am raising them to be strong individuals who contribute to community and society. My eldest is at university undertaking a double degree and by the by has no interest at all in getting married or having children. What if one of Yolanda's daughter's has a similar view? Will Yolanda get the plastic persuader out? I actually despair of what will become of those poor children. To be beaten for not knowing their parents' Christian views. Oh, get your facts straight on the bible too, if you are going to sprout its contents so much. The 'spare the rod' argument supporting hitting children is actually an inaccurate interpretation. 'The phrase "spare the rod and spoil the child" is often incorrectly attributed to the Christian Bible. It does not appear there. It was first written in a poem by Samuel Butler in 1664'(*). Also, when Yolanda was asked what she had learned, she stated something along the lines of how wonderful she was and what a great job she was doing. I obviously don't know her, but she came across as a self-absorbed, controlling big-I-am. I thought Glenn was a nice enough guy, unfortunately he needs to man-up a bit and gain some self-respect. Stop doing what you are told Glenn, it's pitiful. (*) Holly Rossi, "Sparing the Rod," Beliefnet.com, 2005-FEB, at: http://www.beliefnet.com/

I wonder what she would do if one or all of her girls come to her in a few years and tells her they are GAY!!!!!! To use an object on your child is degrading and Not on... Its illegal for one and to think what it could be doing to their little minds!!!!! Whats wrong with children making their own mistakes????? Mistakes are meant to be made so we can learn from them.... Also if I were to walk into Cindy's shop I would be offended by the F word but in saying that it looks like a very rockin shop!!!!! I still think though what both wives have done is awesome but please Yolanda, think what you are doing to those girls before you use that plastic thing on them.... Bruises heal, but their mental state does not.... There are other ways for you to punish your girls.... I hope both wives learnt something from the swap.... Cindy telling your girls to F**K off is not the way to go either.... Its a terrible way of speaking to children.... Your talking down to them, not to them.... In saying all this I understand we only saw 1 hour of 7 days and its not always the best view we see.... Congrats to you both for giving it a go!!!!!

I must be on another planet, I didnt particularly like either of them, both have their weaknesses and faults (like us all), Im sorry I just found Cindy a little bit too vulgar and offensive to my ears, you can get your point across without so many profanities and use of the middle finger, I didnt find it funny, I found it a little sad and staged. Yolanda's ideas are a little bit nethandanal re girls training to be wives and yes put the spoon away, they leave marks! I should know, my oldies used to hit me with a wooden feather duster and I used to have some unholy welts. NOT ON! Id be interested to know if a bottle of wine had of rolled through the door instead of the child trying to show Cindy what she had done that day at school, Im sure the bottle would not have been ignored and so adamantly sent away. Thats not funny people, thats just plain sad.

As a professional in the area, Yolanda, you need to understand that in Victoria it is considered child abuse to smack your children, especially with an implement. And as evidenced on the show, it does not seem to be making your chidlren any 'better' behaved than anyone else's. As for your comment that your 11yo calls you the nazi parents, - -expect more of this as you try to keep such a tight reign on her and she enters puberty! My experience - as a parent and a professional - has shown that tring to keep such a tight rein and using corporal ounishment only tends to worsen the teenage rebellion. It seems you learnt nothing and I wish your girls well as they have to deal with you. People like me will be around to picj up the pieces.

I personally know Cindy and her gorgeous family. I have to disagree with Yolanda suggesting that B will end up like the pub girls in Yolanda's area. B is a sensible girl ! So I agree with mick when he tells Yolanda off!! N lei your still a sweetheart!

    • Deborah298
      March 2012

PS - I should also add that I am a child from a home where corporal punishment was used on us even as teens. All it did was ensure that the five of us have very distant and even non-existent relationships with our parents as adults. My children are respectul adults and teenagers who have pushed boundaries like any others, but we are a very close family and I fear for how you will handle this behaviour in your girls.

    • Katrina
      March 2012

I agree with you Deborah298, Yolonda proved to me that she is a very insucure person, doesn't have friends, doesn't seem to allow her children or husband to have friends which I am sure will have bad results in years to come. It IS considered child abuse to smack your child with anykind of implement :ie- a hard plastic serving spoon! If Yolonda's husband ever died or divorced her, how would she survive?, she has no social life, no friends, no job....hmmmmmm

I agree, Cindy was funny. Yolonda is obviously insucure within herself, not allowing her husband to go out once a month to the pub lol. And Yolonda's kids were cheeky to Cindy, and olonda is a hands on Mum, so what does that say??

I dont know why they bother having this forum, you might as well close it down because anyone who gets on here after watching the show (because they dont know what really went on, why would they?) is getting feedback from the "Wives" lol. Sure stick up for yourselves when you think its warranted, but then again I havent seen any of the other ladies even bother about it, they must have thicker skin or something and know it for what it is. As long as you know, then who gives a ... what they say on here? Take it with a grain of salt Ladies, good on you all for getting out and having a go and exposing your lives to the general public but you must have realised at the time of filming that some members of the public are judgemental, throw stones in glass houses and are just plain ignorant. Unfortunately but true. I find all the comments interesting, some are abit uncalled for and really not worth the effort to respond to, why waste the energy? After all it is only an opinion and they are entitled to it, right or wrong..... as Ned Kelly said, such is life!

My what a small brain has Harry. Would love to make him eat that bible. Karin Wilkinson was such a lovely lady and you to judge her for being Gay.. who cares idiot, stop reading that out of date book and get with the times. I hope Harry has a gay kid...fingers crossed.

    • Judge Mental
      February 2012

Although eating a bible may seem a good way of getting much needed fibre, I I don't recommend it as a means of increasing brain size, but if if you have done some personal research on eating bibles increasing brain size, it may just be the miracle proving divine inspiration. Max, if you appear in my court I will allow you to swear to tell the truth on your choice of holy or unholy book, and will leave the biblical meal for when court is adjourned. Now my verdict: Max, I am going to judge you for judging Harry for judging Karin. People are allowed to make their own personal judgements about these matters. (providing we remain tolerant of each other). Let's not resort to personal insults. What people choose to do in the privacy of their bedroom should be of no concern to anyone else, so if someone disapproves of anothers lifestyle, so what? Nobody is preventing anybody from persuing their chosen lifestyle providing they are doing no harm to others. Yes Harry, how dare you read an out of date book, that played a significant role in western civilisation?! Get with the times and start watching the Kardashians, listening to Lady Ga Ga and engage in the nihilism of the post modern age. Scratch the last part of that comment as post modern is so yesterday and clearly out of date.

I loved this episode! As a church going pentacostal Christian who also has gay friends, it was interesting to watch. They were both lovely families. Harry would have come good after another week or two. I'm glad it wasn't one of those extreme shows.

  • Georgie
    February 2012

Both families have things they need to work on. I do not think the Dedes kids are obese and if you compared the mother to Oliver, they are on a very similar scale as far as weight goes. I think diets could improve, but with that said I think the Bleker's are very short sighted. To be so blind to your own flaws and not open to critism, yet dish it out so easily. Disgrace.

    February 2012

Found Oliver, the German guy really hard on the stomach (pun intended). Very telling what he had in the library, spoke volumes about who he is. Gave him a different context all together, as Mein Kampf is still prohibited reading in his native Germany. Disgusted by his personality and how he represents himself. What a waste of airtime for somebody like this man, as it also plays into the most negative stereotypes of people of a Teutonic background. Ignorant and little-minded excuse of a man. Too bad he doesn't even have the emotional or intellectual capacity for shame.

Wife Swap Australia???? don't you mean Wife Swap Bogan? This show doesn't represent the Australian families that I know. Every episode has been between bogan families. where are the real Australians?

      March 2012

For Judge Judy & Stuart, May I remind you both that you two are the ones on here commenting & Judge Judy REALLY lol..... Both of you need to step out from your computers and have a look outside..... Judge Judy, you say you have to be a BOGAN to watch it in the first place so answer me this, Why are you on here making comments and judging when you clearly didnt watch the show!!!!! Or do you have nothing else better to do with your day then judge & mouth off..... Your name clearly JUDGE JUDY is a JOKE as Im sure you are..... And as for Stuart, BOGANS really..... The real Australians you are so called talking about live away from a computers and have lives... We clearly saw that in this series..... Last but not least MUNGBEANS, You couldnt attempt to step out of your comfort zone ( the computer) for one second to do anything remotely interesting so how about you all have a good hard look at yourselves before judging & attacking others for having the guts to do so..... And CAZZIE, cocky you say... I say interesting and very smart as they were smart enough to fill in an application to appear on the show... All I see is little people sitting on their computers cause they cant deal or cut it in the real world..... I am one of the wives who appeared on the show and had a ball doing so.... I am fair from being a bogan.... I am very well educated and studied and now have a degree in Community Welfare... My husband is in a very highly paid supervisor role and our childern are the most amazing young, well adjusted, well educated children you would ever have the pleasure of meeting.... Oh but wait thats right you guys dont get off your computers enough to meet people like myself.... But Im glad you all helped us get our 15 minutes of FAME.... LMFAO..... You are all a punch of losers & Im glad I dont have people like you in my life.... Good Luck to you all.... As you will need it....

    • Judge Judy
      March 2012

You have to be a bogan wanting to watch the show to start with. Also, please, re-visit the definition of 'bogan', - you may be surprised of resemblance to yourself. You like it or not, Australia has its share of bogans and it is, should I say,...substantial... So, you should not worry about what people overseas would think of Australians in case the show would make its way there...They already know it courtesy of Contiki Tours among others... However, of course, not all Australians are bogans like not every muslim is a terrorist.

    • Cazzie
      February 2012

I love laughing at the Bogans on the show. They are so cocky, yet they can hardly put two words together without some "boganism" coming out of their mouths! No one with any intelligence would go on this show - its for those who crave their 15 minutes of fame - even if it makes them look as stupid as they really are. It will be embarrassing if/when this show airs overseas - Australians are not all BOGANS. I feel sorry for some of the wives, who have made very poor choices in husbands.

    • Lannah

if i was oliver...or phuong...id be embarrassed by the brutal truth of their shallow lives...i cannot believe that they let their daughter do modelling and allow her to call people fat...what problems do u think plague the modelling industry???...eating disorders...because girls are taught at a young age that hey HAVE to be skinny...and why only the one child???...what message are they sending the other child by NOT including her???...is she not pretty enough???...those parents have encouraged the children to be judgemental of how people look...that will be huge insecurity when they become teenagers...id rather be like christine and teach my children to accept themselves and have confidence in who they are...what was with oliver saying she wasn't a house guest and was a 'replacement' wife...does he treat his wife like that???...would he not feed his wife???...treat those the way u would want to be treated...lest u be judged...and now u have been judged!!!...and frankly u compare poorly...

The Dede family are disgusting. The kids Are growing up to be just like their mother obese and lazy and that 19yeat old daughter you are ESPECIALLY a disgrace. Not helping out around the house and then palming off your laundry to your grandmother?youre an able bodied young person and you choose to make give your laundry to a senior citizen to do.You're a pathetic human being. On a last note, the only reason your mother and yourself got so defensive when Phuong mentioned in her manual that she detested obese and lazy people is because you know deep down that is the kind of people you are. This Dede mother and daughter combo make me sick.

    • nectargirl
      February 2012

wow...u have alot of hatred for people u don't even know! not everyone can be a "trainer"...lol...u are a joke! as they showed on the show the kids are now cleaning anyway...obesity is not a deformity...maybe instead of being so judgemental u should reflect on why u responed so angrily???...maybe it touched a nerve with u???...gym junkie are u deeply insecure???...i think so!!!!

  • Angelia Maree
    February 2012

Christine's family was somewhat overweight, but so was Oliver. Her house could have been a little cleaner, but the family did seem happy which is really what counts. But what was with the Nazi book? What the .... ? Mein Kampf (My Struggle in English) was a book written by Adolph Hitler containing his political philosophy and ideology along with a partial autobiography. And yet Oliver wants to judge others for being "fat". He's lucky Christine didn't judge him on his library contents. Chances are he owns it just out of interest of his home country's past, but if people were as judgemental as him and his wife....?

I think the people I felt sorriest for was Oliver and Phuong's beautiful little girls, eating sandwiches for dinner and being brought up with the idea that their mother and father will not always be there for them when they need it, like comforting after nightmares.

OMG i hope the DEDE';S read this---> Cristine your AWESOME!!!Love your big beutiful personality and how you put that rag back in her place, how dare they speak to anyone and use personal attack's like that, like they are better, those poor little girls are living in NAZI like strict conditions, i can tell cristine has a lot of love for her family and loyalty, WTG GIRL!! Made me pmsl when you said that you will be having ''tampons'' and ''thong'' pizza for dinner, true aussie humour right there and straight to the point(u said it how it looked, lol)if ppl dont like it who gives 2 hoots!?! people are too uptight these days and esp that fong and nazi,Best Ep yet.

I agree with Trinks! My grandfather was a POW survivor in WWII and you will find Mein Kampf on my shelf. He lost his eye and and his hearing and he suffered from PTS syndrome up until his recent death. It was one of the most controversial, powerful and historic books ever written. Every well-informed German owns a copy.

Here it goes again... Ok, let's send away/back where they come from all the people that look, sound and think differently, - people that made Australia the country it is now (BTW, disagree with wadedennis' earlier assessment on the state of the country). Just think, what Australia would be left with.., ie convicts, bogans and rednecks, because decent Aussies would run for their lives as well!

    February 2012

How can someone call their house a pigsty when they only panned on the garage (mine is messy also, isn't everyones?!) and the laundry. It may have been cluttered but thats about it. They didn't show any of the bedrooms or such because they must have been tidy, and the emphasis on the 'messiness' will create bored people like all of you that comment this forum to fuel you with nasty things to say. It's all about creating good television, hence why they would have left out the good things about the Dedes family, and show what a lovely, loving family they really are. As for the 'fat' issue, what is wrong with everyone? If you don't have nothing nice to say than don't say it, you all hide behind your little keyboards making fun of other people when you all are probably not happy with yourselves. All in all, the Bieckers are weirdos and Christina and family, you rock! Don't worry what others say, be true to yourself.

I can't believe that Phuong called anyone lazy, the woman won't cook. I think she was picked on at school, and now picks on fat people as some kind of warped revenge, all she has going for her is her size really, but, as we all know, it's what's ont he inside. As for her husband, Adlof ... just weird and controlling. And to all of you so bothered by a messy house, get over it, that's life!

What those girls are not able to do anything..No touching the walls, draw in the house or play with kids stuff..She doesn't even feed them right..And she said about being over weight to other people she doesn't know.Look at her two little girls when they were at the fairy party. The two of them just ate and never left the table. Those two little girls are going to have weight problems when they leave home. Beautiful mother?? What did she do to be a beautiful mother? she tells the girls to stay in bed, even if they wake up.Even if they have a nightmare...And that husband of hers: He gave the girls and himself food as made NOTHING for Christine..Are u for real..Phong and her family are RUDE..

    February 2012

I dont think people should be judged on how there house looks or the way people look how un australian everyone is meant to be equals in this the country but i think the bigger picture out of this episode is what those growing little girls are eating sandwiches for dinner is not right growing children need meat vegies dairy etc and i do hope the bieker parents do learn to feed the kids properly before they get unwell but i did find it disturbing if the girls have nightmares they cant go to their parents for comforting when you become a parent you protect them and comfort them thats a dutie of being parents but do hope they learn to feed the properly. But the dede family are not innocent either they had a little girl in that house aswell and the house was a mess and unhygenic and i dont think that little girl should be playing where the is dog and cat *** inside but people live that way in a mess but clean houses get judged to so nobody can win :/

It's sad to read so many comments from people judging others by looks. As Martin said if you don't have anything nice to say don't say it at all. Do you really think its was ok for that couple to be so focused on looks that a 3 year thinks its ok to say it as well! That man was a pig to her, who sits down and eats and not offer food to a guest in your home??? How about people stop judging each other on looks, race, disability or sexuality etc it's just cruel and unnecessary.

C)Cook the Beeker girls some real food and serve them at the table not the floor.
D)Her Beeker,if that is how you treat your house guest, how do you treat friends.

It was great to see the Daly family make postive and healthy changes to their diet and lifestyle. As teachers, we often see overweight children who are bullied and suffer from low self esteem. The Jackson family are obviously very aware of how to lead a healthy lifestyle. However, as Tracey said it's all about balance. Who doesn't enjoy the odd chocolate spider and cup of milo??? We know we certainly do along with regular exercise!

    • Lamia

Her decorating style and abrasive personality were more offensive than Pete the slacker. But in the end, neither family seemed to come away from this episode with anything.

      January 2012

Oh yes Ms Judge I agree with you Leanne was so foul mouthed, no wonder she needs to clean so much she ought to extend it to her mouth! And Pete was quite the slacker....he just really seemed off the planet, at least he was minimal on the insults...I wish Pete had of come to the table meeting....poor Bernadette...I understand though....with Leanne's over made up high and mightiness....who would want to sit opposite her...ever???

I think both families are living to extremes with both sides not wanting to listen to the other. Both families rather stubborn. they could take a leaf from each others book and live a more balanced life. its no cool to sear and call people names. There are other more constructive ways of trying to influence people.

  • Michelle1049
    January 2012

Knowing the Zanteys for years, Pete has worked in the past and his attitude comes from the fact that despite all his applications he isnt getting work, imagine getting rejected constantly and see how you feel. What you dont know or see is all the good stuff he has done for charities and homeless. I bet Leanne has NEVER helped a single person her whole life, she deliberately crosses the road to avoid buskers because its beneath her! At least they go out and try to make money doing that! The zanteys at least have fun, and make each other happy. How boring it would be at Leanne's house, work, cleaning... boring! And her poor kids talking to themselves alone in their rooms. At least Pete has changed and helps out at home, looks for work.. Leanne has gone back to her old life, it was her LOVE of money that enticed her... NOT change.

    • Susan
      January 2012

There's nothing wrong with being a stay at home dad, while the mum goes out and earns the money, but he needs to get off his *** and play the part which means looking after the kids and taking responsability for the house work. At one point it mentioned his wife having to leave work to pick up the kids from school which was only 5 mins away, um do his legs not work can he not walk that far? And there's a difference between not being able to find employment and plain and simply not wanting to work.

    • WSAviewer

It is a shame his charity work was not shown, it would have provided a more balanced view.

Leeanne needs to loosen up. There is no point sucking the fun out of her kids chid hoods completely. She is the type of woman that thinks because her house is never out of order that she is higher in society, why doesn't she go and get a real job as well. Thought it was a bit rich of her to berate Pete for not having one when she doesn't herself. She needs to realise that she should encourage her children to follow their dreams as well as having a good grounding to be successful in life. In 5 years I can see her children rebelling against her regime and running an absolute muck, and she probably won't know because her kids will not feel comfortable coming to her. Having said that Pete needs to man up and stop leaching of his wife. Those poor children need a healthier role model of what a family actually is. It made me sick to think that a father would put his children through that kind of struggle. Agreed with Leeanne on a lot of points. I feel for his wife, she is acting like his mother it must to horrible not to have a partner that you cannot depend on to SUPPORT you. That doesn't have to be through paid work. I could not live with and support a man that does not even try support me or my children emotionally regardless of the rest!

We have seen two shows so far and both seem to fit the rich v poor and the poor come off really bad. There is more to poverty than choosing to be dirty or lazy check out the Ottawa charter or the Jakarta charter for health promotion and get a clue about what creates the lifestyles of the poor.
Why not choose families for the show who are poor but are also clean with a work ethic. Why not pick something other than financial status and cleanliness as an opposing force. I am very poor sure I am not really clean but I work two jobs am a single mum am in the top 5% Australia wide at full time uni and a domestic violence surviver. This year I am applying for my second degree to do medicine at uni. My kids have values and morals when do the poor get represented as hard working good people or is it just the wealthy who get represented as the ideal family.

  • Jennifer147
    January 2012

Pete might be whatever but Leanne had no right to go into his home and start abusing him about every little thing he does. Sorry but she needs a reality check. Maybe if she took the stick out of her *** she might actually have kids who want to be around her. Feel very sorry for you snobby ***!

      January 2012

I agree. Leanne was totally out of line. This show is about moderation and embracing change and all parties were too raw to do that-the producers should have done more to chill everyone out. But Pete should have backed up Bernadette.

Was disappointed it was only a week swap. You don't really get the full picture with just one week. If Trent is suffering depression he shouldn't be drinking and him stepping out of the limelight for the last three days was a cop out. Even for all her money and the fact she has a cleaner, it didn't stop Stephanie getting in and cleaning the dirty house. The Barry's are lazy, look at the washing line. As Stephanie said when she arrived and the master bedroom was a mess, the Barry's knew she was coming and could have made an effort.

    • stinky
      January 2012

Exactly!!! Jane, you are right, someone has finally opened their eyes and seen what a normal person should see. Yep if I knew I had a stranger going thru my house it certainly would not have looked like that. The more I watch the episode the more Stephanie is the hero and Nicola the loser!!!!

  • Ruthy5
    January 2012

The Montford's aren't perfect.........They might spoil their children but at least they go to school with a full stomach and raise their children in a CLEAN, HEALTHY and SMOKE FREE environment......even if it is excessive....... unlike the poor neglected Barry children who go to school with no breakfast while their parents enjoy the $150 worth of alcohol and cigarettes each week!!!!! Really guys who is the bigger offender here???? And as for Stephanie's choice in clothing........who really cares as long as she's happy!!!

    • Lola89
      January 2012

To those saying the money spend on cigs and alcohol was a gross exaggeration, I believe that that amount was shown in the welcome kind of rule book that they wrote up before the swap, I specifically remember seeing the total.

      January 2012

    • beautylee
      January 2012

NO you cant trust what you see on TV, but also the show adheres to certain rules which each wife agrees to, if its in the manual thats what they state is in their life, and even tho they like a smoke, it is not good tv these days to promote smoking on TV re kids watching. The evidence is there, look at all the bloody ashtrays

    • nic
      January 2012

thanks Max you are exactly right in saying that you cant trust what you see on tv......the kids do have breakfast and its a gross overexaggeration of how much is spent on alcohol and cigarettes.....smoking is not permitted around the kids and who the hell drinks $100 worth of alcohol a week?????...let us remember that what you dont see is what the producers add in to make it more contorversial.

    • Max
      January 2012

I didn't see any smoke in the kids environment. As for going to school hungry, they live in a small rural comunity and they have breakfast at school. So you can not trust all you see on TV.

lol youll be fine cynthia, your not the only one, just laugh at it, roll with the *** that you know is not true, and dont take it too seriously, like I said, Australians are judgemental and NOT always for the right reasons, enjoy your hour of fame, and DONT worry what anyone on here says or anywhere else, who cares? as long as YOU know whats right, the rest of em can go to hell,

  • beautylee
    January 2012

Ok, my last thought for the night, I watched the show again and enjoyed it more than the night before, I dont know why Australians knock people who have worked hard and enjoy what they have worked hard for. What did you think that they pulled that house out of their arse? Yes the kids need to wake up and realise that money doesnt grow on trees, in the same respect, sending children off to school with no brekkie astounds me and yet there has been nothing addressed toward the Barrys on that issue. Australians are very judgemental and the show is not about who wears what and the catty remarks associated with it, Life is what you make it, some have more drive than others, some choose to live the lifestyles they do, if both families are happy in their present siutations, who are we to judge?

  • TANYA

    January 2012

I was repulsed by the attitude of Stephanie Montford's Daughter. Her References to the St Vincent De Paul Society shops, & "POOR PEOPLE" absolutely screamed ignorance! It is obvious this girl is a spoilt little princess who has never been taught the value of hard work, or to treat people with respect regardless of how the look or what background they come from. Maybe she needs to walk a mile in someone elses shoes, one who relies on charity organisations to pull through in order to keep on living...then maybe she would wake up!! There are lots of sides to this life, we do not all lead charmed ones......

    • Jason
      January 2012

Julie, I go to school with Alex and I can tell you that she is definitely not the person that the show has made her out to be! She is one of the nicest girls I've ever met and I don't think you, a person who doesn't even know her OR her family should have the right to say the things you have! You should feel ashamed of yourself. She's a 15 year old girl for god sake, you as an adult should know better than to pick on someone through a computer screen.

    • beautylee
      January 2012

Id like to know how a 15 year old can walk in anothers shoes when she has only known 1 pair all her life, Sure, her comments were ignorant, but shes NOT an adult, so stop persecuting her as if she was one, thats the parents problem, not Australias. and BTW I have an AWESOME pair of jeans I got from Vinnies, 5 bucks, live in them, pressure in life is hard enough without complete strangers have a go, lay off

I hope the teenage daughter watches it and realizes how spoilt rotten she has been & how bad she looked, she needs some real life experiences, maybe they should let the kids swap sometimes too so they can see not everyone gets things handed to them just like her, however I think her parents may have been genuine in agreeing to stop the spending & its a good thing she has a job too appreciate how hard her dad works & that their is more to life than "brand names" etc. I would like to see a follow up in 6 months & see how both families are living and if they kept up with the changes...

  • Karen3199
    January 2012

I didn't think I would like this. I have watched the show from the UK and the USA but this surprised me. It was very well done, both families learned not to judge by appearance. They learnt a few home truths about themselves and corrected them. I have to say by the end I liked them all and I loved the husband going through depression and recognising it. I loved the other husband for buying the new wife a new sewing machine so she wouldn't have to work 2 jobs. It is the first one I have seen where the couples ended up friends and I liked that. It made me laugh when the not so wealthy wife stuck pretend tattoo's on the other family and took them out for the day. I think for a change Aus has done it better than the other Countries and they did it with dignity. No screaming and cursing at the end.

    • yvette

spot on karen... i have no doubt there will be some cursing at the end of some eps in the future but i really enjoyed this one.

    January 2012

I LOVED it! Ran the full gammet of emotions as I cried along with Stephanie at those poor Barry kids going to school without breakfast. Then at the final meeting to have each wife's comments listened to and respected..... that's a first for Wife Swap. I can imagine these two families getting together for a BBQ...... that's Aussies for yuou!!!

That's awesome - mutton dressed as lamb!!! We've known the montfords for quite a while and she has always been the same!!! Oh yeah, and she didn't mention that when Isaac didn't get school captain, she cracked the shits and sent him to another school!!!!

They did Aussies proud. Both families were uniquely different but they were accepting of those differences. Love it. Had a great laugh at the humour both families used. Well done to both families....it was the nicest episode of wife swap I've ever watched. And I watch the uk & us wife swaps too.

  • Craige
    January 2012

i loved it even though it was a bit layed back was a great start so refreshing to see the wives listening to each other and was moved to see trent start to come to terms with his depression. i know that we will head down hill in the next few episodes but i hope that this first show will be starting point for all of us to look at our relationships.
the best thing for me was that all the familys even the children were open to the experience the good and the bad
in the end it showed that both familys loved each other and that spending more time together was all they really wanted
i hope they remain the best of friends and have many many bbqs together

  • Stuart
    January 2012

The good thing too I guess is the poor family were bogans and the rich family were just bogans with money (i use the word bogan endearingly in that aussie = a bit bogan). There's no old money here so you don't get those fwits who think their superior by money and breeding. And if anyone gets that attitude they'll be snubbed by the real humans anyway.

  • Stuart

It was bloody terrible!! I think whoever produced it missed the mark. It was also sooo slow. Nothing was happening, the narration was slow. I had to ask, what the hell am i watching? In the UK/US versions usually the families have at least one disfunction that sticks out like dogs balls and the other person is fighting against it and trying to get them to change. Neither of these families had any of that really, they were both mainly fine, and in the end they were mates and talking about catching up. If that is true of Australia, and I'm not convinced it is, then that's nice I suppose, but people being average doesn't make a Wife Swap. It's nutters with 'sweepstakes' obsessions, chastity rings, more devotion to god than themselves, that makes the sparks fly and therefore a show.

    • Stuart
      January 2012

Before we get too cocky about how wonderful Australians are; bring on a show with a couple of North Queensland or NT families. Then you'll have some dead-set freakazoids!

    • aeroqueen
      January 2012

I agree. The poms are so much more honest and really say their piece, and the US shows are really good too. Our Aussie version was pretty lame. We need a few sparks to fly to make great tv.

    • beautylee
      January 2012

I agree Stuart, it wasnt terrible, but yeah I thought it was abit slow, nothing eye catching or different about them. Rich vs Poor, nice to see they were decent to each other but nothing out of the ordinary, I found these families abit boring

    • stuart
      January 2012

In reply to me. Yea but they're Americans so who cares? We know they're assholes so it's funny! We all have our underlining problems but i thought the point of the show was to highlight serious problems. these peoples problems were trifling so it's like you could have picked about 4 million couples and had the same result. Things like enslaving your children or giving all your money to church are serious problems. But maybe that's the point. It's OK to see that stuff with yanks but we don't want to here. Time will tell.

    • me
      January 2012

I dont agree.. its good to watch a show and feel like your not watching some dumb *** americans be narrow minded and over obsessed on how how they live.. also i think drama is in the eyes of the beholder.. i could relate to both families and i found it very interesting seeing them actually see eye to eye, they both have their underlining problems and having the swap in happen made them stronger and more powerful people.. AUSSIE RULE!

Plus her family were warm, loving & had their priorities right, although o fcourse cleaner would have been better

Trisha I kind of felt there was a "level of snobby-ness displayed", quotes made about Vinnies were shallow and unaustralian. My two cents worth but overall I dug the show. It was funny cause I don't live like either of them.

I agree with aeroqueen. We don't want fence sitters. The UK version is much more entertaining, they tell it like it is. And why is it only 1 week?

Ilike the honesty and banter that the English wifeswap has, far more entertaining. Aussies tend to sit on the fence and not voice their strong views for fear of public dislike.

A great 1st episode, I expected more swearing & I think both families took something away from the experience

Congratulations for putting on a show that has the two females taking constructive criticism from each other and not screaming like banchees at each other. Both women learned from the experience, what a shame the US show shows all that ... and nothing positive!

Absolutely loved it! I always watch the UK and USA versions but thought the Aussies did it so much better. They were all so nice to each other at the final meeting and everyone benefited from the swap. I couldn't believe the Barrys left their rules on the wall! It was a great show - looking forward to the next episode...

I SO agree. They were actually nice to each other at the final meeting. Listened to and respected the other wife's comments and suggestions. Just goes to show how good the Aussie spirit is!
