PLEASE HELP 10 years ago i bought an investment property while still married, we were renovating it with a view to living in it. My marriage ended suddenly (long story) and we took a house each. I ended up with the unfinished renovation project. I was slowly completing the renovations on my own, when i had a work accident in 2007 and developed chronic severe disabling pain all over my body and crippling fatigue and wrecked my existing 'good' knee(fibromyalgia, myofascial pain syndrome and chronic fatigue syndrome, as well as a thoracic spinal injury and 2 wrecked knees). The problem is that now i am physically incapable of completing the renovations and I live alone, with no family nearby. There are holes in my walls, I have no bathroom - only a rigged up outside shower surrounded by a tarp, my kitchen is disgusting due to constant rodent infestation and my floors are raw wood and stained with dirt as I am unable to do any housework and currently have no income due to a workers compensation dispute and being unable to continue my job as a nurse. I have unfinished architraving around my laundry door that lets mice, rats and often birds into the house as well as the heat and cold. My bedroom has gaps in the internal wood lining boards that match up with the gaps in the outside weather boards and this lets the drafts in. My ceilings are all lining boards with gaps that let dust fall - so much so that I cannot leave a drink uncovered anywhere. While married we completed most of the structural repairs, except my bedroom that has had a concrete slab poured to replace the original wood floors, however the people that did this did not fix the rotting wall joists, there are missing weather boards on the outside and when it rains heavily the water seeps into my bedroom and soaks my curtains and also floods my laundry. I could continue to describe further issues with the house, but this post is long enough. I am begging for help as I am not physically or financially able to do it myself and I am really really sick of cohabiting with rodents!! thankyou

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help. My 22 year old son bought his own home 18 months ago. He worked 6 days a week for years to be able to raise the deposit. He's such a good boy and it's just killing me to see the depth to which this is affecting him. I wish I could help but I'm sick myself and cannot work any longer and my husband doesn't earn enough to allow us to help. He's doing all he can to put the money together to cover this loan that there just isn't anything left. His kitchen is only just operational because synergy just replaced his appliances, before that he used a microwave and bench top convection oven to do things and his cupboards are lowly disintegrating with age. I just want to see him happy and all I see is depression in his eyes. He pretends to be doing ok because he knows I worry, but he knows I still see it all on his face

Hi, I am just wondering if you would be able to help with both idea's and physical help to give my husband back his "Man shed". Our story is: Over the last 4 years my husband Ash has pretty much lost his shed to me and our 2 girls (2 yrs and 4 yrs of age) between using it for storage and also Ash building a study for me in 1 corner, his dune buggy has been kicked out to live under the elements, his bar has been shoved to the side and used to stack items on and his pool table has been dismantled and hung on the side of the wall, so Ash now has no where really he can go to get his own peace.. Since the birth of our girls I have had a lot of health issues, I have had rheumatoid arthritis most of my life and after the birth of my girls I also now suffer from Fibromyalgia, Chronic fatigue as well as a number of other ailments. With constant trips to Melbourne specialists and general ill health Ash has been a rock and looks after both me and the girls, as well as runs our business. My husband loves to fish, tinker in the vegetable garden and build things and it is getting harder and harder for him to do any of the things he loves to do in his shed... We don’t have heaps of cash and I know Ash has plans to build shelving etc in the shed just to free up some floor space, but I honestly believe he just does not know where to start on this big and potentially expensive project. I really want to give Ash back more of his shed so he can tinker more.. I really want to show my husband just how much we all love him and appreciate just what he does for all of us. Hi Tommy need your help we have a leaking roof hubby has patched it up lots of time you should see the things he has had a go at fixing.we have big white drain pipes coming down from the gutters because when we get a lot of rain we have a waterfall.and the rest of the place seems to be falling apart around us we have a brick wall in side and even it is starting to fall apart I am worried about the acrhes some of the bricks are loose.please help if you can.we have small windows at the front of the house,and the stone under the window is falling .our garage flooded,

Hello Tommy, I live in Brisbane and have managed to purchase my home ten years ago while raising my three children alone. For years now I have dreamt of having my two way bathroom renovated and made an onsuite and the laundry, toilet and some hall area changed to the main bathroom. I have even gone so far as to buy tap fittings, vanity sets, feature tiles and towels in the hope oneday it would be done! I guess after all these years I want something special and of my own. I have managed over the years to do some renovations to keep the house in good order and appealing presentation but find it impossible now to have any money left over to do anything after paying the bills. Dear Tommy. When I bought my beautiful home, I hired a flooring contractor at a great price, so I thought, but he took so many short cuts, unbeknownst to me, and afterward my tile floors have been spitting out spacers and coming up along with the grout. I have had to live with the problem as the contractor refused to answer his phone and eventually my husband told me to drop it....he would fix the tiles but of course, the only fix is knocking out the entire 1200 feet of tile. I am so disappointed and have lived with this problem for 13 years now. HELP?!?!I live in Bakersfield, California.

Dear Tommy my partner and i have a 2 yr old daughter he is an apprentace and i am going back to school full time in July which equals you guessed it no money we are on a rent to buy deal so are responsible for all repaires and have found that the house we bought was patched up so no problems were visable shortly after the place started showing sign of things going wrong at first we thought it just needed restumping and maybe 2 huge trees at the front of our house where also to blame so we managed to get money together to get rid of them when we got a restumper to come and look he asked how long we had had the house for because he remembered restuping this place within the last 5-10yrs and it shouldnt have moved that much and now he wants us to get a report which just to get someone out will cost $$$ anyway long story short house is falling aprt literally roof has leaks which is eatting away the plaster and water now runs down the walls i try to do as much as i can myself but there are somethings i just cant do PLEASE HELP US Joanne - From Leopold Vic Australia

Hello Tommy, My name is Tanya. I'm a single mother of 2 children. My ex left me for another woman and his reason for divorce was that I want to buy a house, lol. Anyway to cut it short, after we divorce for 2 years I manage to buy a house with helping from the county program for down payment assistant. I was fortunate for that. I bought a fixer house and tried to fix everything myself. Now, I tried to fix my basement by myself. It's finish basement which I plan for my son to live there. Right now he sleep on the first floor and my daughter sleep with me. We have two bedroom. My son is 13 and my daughter is 11. After I removed a couple tile and look on subfloor and wall panel, I found that there are molds. I stop at this point. Thinking it might not be safe to do the work by myself and I can't afford to pay for the work. I manage to pay for mortgage, food and etc., but barely have any saving. I am leaving this request for you on behalf of my mother (who is none the wiser to my actions), my reasons being that the state of her house is begining to affect her health and I am very worried.
6 years ago she bought the house she is living in and has, over the years, completely renovated it changing every room. However, there has been a major problem with dampness that is slowly destroying the walls and her furniture. She has had many professionals in and carried out all the work they have recommended including the to exterior of the property. Thousands has been spent and she is no further forward.
My son stays with her at weekends while I work and this is now begining to affect him aswell as he has suffered pneumonia causing him to have seizures as a result of dampness in the past.
We would be willing to pay for any work carried out. Further information on work already carried out can be made available along with pictures.

Hi Tommy, I hope that you can possibly help my husband and me. We've finally found our perch so to speak and this is where we will probably drop off from. The views are amazing, but the house itself is in disrepair. It's has they say the worst house in the best street, with the best view. We would love our house to have a complete makeover ie: a new paint job throughout, an updated kitchen, bathroom and bedroom with a walk in robe, new tiled floor with carpeted bedrooms and last but not least a verandah that we know that we won't be falling through. She was told she could move back in but HUD officials changed their minds when they saw the condition of the house saying the house "was completely unsuitable for a person to live in." They are looking for help and for someone to fix the house so she can move back in... Are you the guys? I don't know because I don't watch TV. I just googled "TV shows that fix houses". I just want to see her moved back into her home for the remainder of her years.

Hi Tommy. I am writing this for my Mum. After divorcing a couple of years ago she had to move into a bit of a run down house cause that's all she could afford. Unfortunately the house has only gotten worse. Every room needs help! The roof is leaking and the walls look like they're about to fall down around her! I know she wants to fix it but she never has the money cause something else will come up, like her car gave up on her or her dog needed surgery. Hi Tommy, my name is Courtney and I am 18 years old. I have lived in the same house my entire life, and it is quite an old house. Things are falling apart, don't work and just look really bad. For years my parents have been talking about knocking down and rebuilding, but we just simply can't afford it - so it seems renovation is the only way to go. We just recently renovated our bedrooms completely ourselves (Painting, new furniature etc), but there are more important rooms that are in desperate need of a makeover/fix-up. Our kitchen is old, and I feel really unhygenic whenever I use it, it's falling apart, our cupboards are old and our roof is peeling. The Bathroom is just as bad, the tiles are coming off the walls, the roof is peeling, everytime we use the toilet, the pipes clog up and we have to keep plunging to get the water back down and it's really outdated too. Our Laundry is small, and could definitely need a fix up, and likewise our loungeroom and dining room.. Our house is a disaster! Please help!

What a wonderful idea to help a family out with renovating their home! I wish this was something more builders and renovators would take on - as i can see there is certainly the need for it! Our house too would love a make-over. We bought the house in Feb 2011 and have slowly discovered plenty of 'quirks'. We're working on fixing the leaking roof slowly, as well as dreaming of fixing the bathroom, toilet (which actually wobbles!) and laundry. The kitchen too is struggling under the lack of bench space and crazy lime green mdf cupboards. We have our own unique family struggles - but don't want to let them get in the way of making our dreams reality. Thanks for the opportunity to be able to post a comment on your site. Hi Tommy, My name is Bonita. And I am writing this on behalf of my Nana. She is 61 years old, an ambulance officer, and she never has time for herself to get anything done. She is ALWAYS giving. My Nana did have some money saved up to renovate her house after her husband died in 2002. But when in need my Nana gives all she has, including the savings for the renovations. It's gotten to the point where even in the bathroom and the kitchen there aren't even any taps. She uses a pair of pliers to turn the water on. I love my Nana so much, and I really think she deserves a beautiful house to come home to, after a long days work of helping everyone but herself. I am single female who bought a bare bones fixer upper in Ohio- with a 10k downpayment after my Beloved Dad passed..
It is 926 square feet- and the house is gutted- sits on 2 acres with a 5 acre lake behind it. I have managed to plant 25 trees and rose gardens to improve the look- I am happy with my landscaping undertaking- yet I still cant go to the bathroom and have to drive 3 miles to go to a gas station and use the toliet- I dont have insultation or drywall- I do have electric- The back looks out on a lake and my fanatasy is to have a indoor outdoor room and deck that can really soak in the natural beauty of the place- in the back- literally you could build something that comes out over the pond.
I am poor and have been renovating on a shoe string budget.

My husband and I purchased our first home in June last year with plans to renovate over a four year period. A lot of problems have risen that were not detected in the building report and apparently we have no legal ground to fight this. To complicate our situation, after being told we were unable to have children without medical treatment, we are now naturally expecting our first baby in September! We need to renovate the nursery, change the electrics of the house (which we are informed are illegal!) and there are several other renovation jobs to rooms and a staircase that need rgent attention before the baby arrives. Can you help us??? We watch all of the renovation programs on Lifestyle religously and you see families in need who are helped and we really are struggling now trying to juggle pregnancy and other meical complications, work and university commitments with renovating a property we intended to complete in four years in a 3 month period!
