Hidden away in the idyllic setting of the Lake District is a seemingly ordinary three-star hotel. But behind every door lies an extraordinary story – and a snapshot of modern British life. From celebration to desperation, this is life in a hotel as it’s never been seen before. From reception to the hotel kitchen, from guest bedrooms to the staff quarters, the Damson Dene Hotel is throwing open its doors to reveal what really goes on once you’ve checked in. Each year some 55 million
UK residents spend nearly £8 billion on short breaks across the country.
This eight-part series scratches the surface of everyday hotel life to give a unique, touching and often hilarious glimpse into the lives of the guests and staff. As each new influx of guests unpacks their suitcases, they bring with them a host of personal stories – from newlyweds to silver wedding anniversaries; from family squabbles to make or break getaways. The staff – some of whom live on site – must work hard to meet the expectations of the hotel’s guests, while the hotel’s anager, Wayne, must hold these two worlds together.
