Clients always demand a lot from their architect, but these days – in tough economic times – they demand even more. More space, better value for money and layouts that will work just as well in ten years time as they do today. With renovations in Artone and Kilkenny, refurbishments in Whitehall and Stoneybatter and rebuilds in Enniskerry and Rathcoole, the pressure is really on and delivering on budget is more crucial for presenter and architect Dermot Bannon than ever before. In this series of Room to Improve, Dermot is tested to his absolute limits. With budgets ranging from €35,000 to €120,000, Dermot must remodel eight homes, from concept to completion. How will he protect his reputation and deliver on budget, still giving the client their dream home? With eight very different projects, budgets, requirements and personalities, will Dermot’s new set of criteria allow for any Room to Improve these homes?
