He left the rat-race for a taste of the simple life, but living off the fat of the land is a never ending challenge! Experience the joys of country living with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall in the two-part series River Cottage Road Trip.
After a busy summer at River Cottage HQ culminating with Hugh letting his hair down and cashing in at the local eccentric Scarecrow Festival, Hugh decides to explore new territory.
He leaves business behind and heads north on a road trip in search of culinary inspiration and some regional recipes he can bring back home.
His journey starts in Dumfrieshire where he learns how to make Haggis.
It’s only natural that he should also take part in the bizarre local tradition of Haggis hunting. From haggis hunting in the Borders to char fishing on Coniston Lake, from the Cumbrian damson trail to the finest curd tart of Yorkshire, Hugh cooks up a feast of delights.
On the way back to Dorset, he even stops off in Birmingham to investigate the secrets of curry goat.
Back at River Cottage HQ, it’ll be the main course of an extravagant Caribbean themed feast – a treat for the annual party of the Lyme Regis lifeboat team.
