Relocation Relocation host Phil Spencer is checking out the Australian real estate market in a bid to help UK couples emigrate. Over four episodes, Phil will give his definitive guide to the Australian property market, jobs and culture.
Beginning his search in Perth, Phil will also travel to Melbourne and the Sunshine Coast, and draw his trip to an end in Sydney. Phil’s wife is originally from Melbourne and he will be using all of his knowledge of our property market to help find four emigrating British families their perfect homes. Along the way, he’ll be looking at some of the most remarkable properties Australia has to offer including penthouses, beach houses, ancient aboriginal dwellings and secret cliff hideaways.
He will also visit his favourite house of all time in Byron Bay and investigate about buying his own plot of paradise in the relaxed town. Phil will be exploring some of our more interesting career options that are on offer when he tries out life as a sardine fisherman and heads out on a trawler at the crack of dawn; visits the outback to go behind the scenes with Australia’s most iconic medical occupation, the Royal Flying Doctor Service; and travels to the Yarra Valley to meet with a winemaker and get tips on starting up a vineyard.

Phil I hope you do a second series of Relocation Down Under. This time make sure you include Tassie on your map.
watch the show and love it but even though i live in south australia it still ticks me off that the map on your graphic excludes tasmania... even if your show excludes it there is no reason for it to be not included on the map.
Hi Phil - Born In the Goldfields raised on Bovril I love all things British - you and Kirsty included! I was wanting to let you know about an Ex-pat that was a "Ten Pound Pom" who came out over forty years ago to prospect, caught Gold Fever and never left. He has since created a very successful Gold Mining Company listed on the stock exchange who employs over one hundred people - Ramelius Resources. If you are in WA check out this Pommy Prospecting Pioneer Joe Houldsworth from Manchester who is never far from an Open Pit and who created a bit of WA History. Cheers, Selenee
Hi Phil. I love your show. But an absolute disgrace you have left Tasmania of the map of Australia on the credits. If you are going to feature Australia at least show Tasmania on the map of Australia. Poor form Phil and crew!!
I agree with Nicky - Why are we left off the map all the time!! Tasmania is the 2nd state, Victoria was settled from Tasmania! But I suppose we should keep God's own country a secret because as my father-in-law used to say, never tell anyone how good it is here because everyone would want to come and live here and then it wouldn't be any good anymore. Still I enjoyed the show, but it really isn't the real world is it. I mean where are all the average houses, you know the fibros and weatherboards, and the 1960 and 1970 AV Jennings houses.
It's a pity Phil left off his itnerary - and even his MAP - the most beautiful state - Tasmania, and the most beautiful capital city, Hobart
THe family that opened the bakery were not real expats as she was Australian so would have family here and they wouldnt have had as many problems with visa glad there doing well just keep it real Phil.
Phil, why are you so keen on trying to portray Oz as a land of milk and honey? Is the show funded by the Dept of Immigration? Having moved my family here from the UK its important you report the facts accurately to viewers. With the dollar at an all time high there's never been a worse time to sell a UK property and convert it to dollars. And the big salaries you make reference to are all relative as the cost of living in Oz is much higher than in the UK. The programme is purposely misleading.
Well said
Totally agree, The program should set more relaistic expectations, it's a difficult transistion and with the above in mind this program does not reflect the full picture.
Hey guys, love watching the show. Only thing which annoys me is the shows graphics. Its relocation down under... but what happened to Tassie on the Map? Its like saying a whole part of the country doesnt even exist. C'mon its where all the Poms FIRST went to, even if against their will. LOL.
Once again a totally one sided view of living and working in Australia. I have lived here six years now. " More money for less work" what a load of twoddle. Next week we will be seeing an animal catcher. How about a more balanced view , sure the weather and lifestyle is good but talk about School fees, Medicare levy , Private Health Insurance, massive utility bills, and the price of Groceries. This program has a vibe of eveyone in the UK has a ... drudgery filled life. The UK must be an at leat half decent place Phil becuase you still live there, get real mate.
Totally agree...and I'm sorry for all those people who think that we "aussies" have a laid but life and really dont have to work for money with the flexibility to work when you want...so untrue!!! yes the sun is shining but we all work very hard with long hours. if you want to have a mortgage and enjoy all that oz offers you need a hell of alot of dosh!
Excellent. The lack of truth and research really annoys me. The reality of life in Australia isn't always as wonderful as he portrays. Earn less than the UK (that's if you can get a job in the first place) because british qualifications mean absolutely nothing here, even though that's how you get the visa in the first place! Stop promoting the myth that life in Oz is better!!!!!
Accurately said. These are important factors that play a significant part. Its poor that the programme doesn't mention them.
As a Pom living in Aussie watching Mr and Mrs "don't know" with a budget of $600K seemed extraordinary to me. Coming from a depressed market in Manchester over to inflated prices and tough mortgage conditions over here (20% deposits etc.) felt unrealistic - how much do social workers earn? judging by the intelligence of this pair I would be hiding my kids in VIC. Best decision we took was to tenant our property in the UK and rent ourselves a property in Aussie until the balance shifts.
hi phil great show only us brits know how to make a great show keep it up. keiron
As a Brit who has lived in Oz for 30 years, the obsession by new immigrants with being near the beach should not be their main reason for enjoying life here. There is much more to life than the beach, which is overrated. I live five minutes from the sea on Brisbanes bayside and rarely go near it! Also their preoccupation with 'light' in rooms shows they need educating that usually light rooms mean Hot rooms here. You need nice shady rooms to live comfortably. But all those jiggles aside, I love you Phil!,,,,
Agree with you Jannie, have lived in the NE of Adelaide for 37 years and love the hills, you can keep the beach - no trees!! Yes also thought to myself that light rooms mean hot rooms, someone should put the poms right before they regret their purchase!!
Hi Phil,
I live in Melourne (EastRingwood)we have just purchased a wetherboard house around the corner and have put our house on the market, thinking it would sell quite easily not the case need assistance!!! watched all ypur shows 10yrs wasn't totaly wrapped as "I don't really know" was very obviuos that the outcome was no sale! need Kirsty she would have set them straight!!!!
PS Yorkshire Lad go Leeds!
Phil how do you put up with those indecisive buyers, they drive me bonkers just watching them. How much swearing is done off camera? Oh please don't jump on camera again you looked like a ***. Cheers Pete
Phil
Thanks for keeping tom and jerry out of the dandenongs.
Remind me the starting poiint was a three bedroom terrace with zero garden in rainy manchester so the standards required were clearly very high. Sorry you didnt manage to find anything for 600k but sure if it had been 700k from the start you wouldnt have been any more successful given the material you were working for.
cheers all the best in the other states and hope you find better clients
We want to buy the house in Mount Martha that was featured in tonights episode
Hey Phil We're a Pommie couple living in Tas (6years) and echo Tassiepotter's comments. Why is Tas missing from the titles? Also, given the exchange rate why don't you do a show from Tasmania where property is currently much better value for money than the mainland?
Good on you guys Tassie left out again
Hi Phil Loved the UK show for years. Its great to see your show in Oz. My only comment is you seem to completely forget about Tasmania, it doesnt even appear on the map on the credits to the show. Poms move here too. Other than that I think you should move to Oz, and do your show for all Australians! :-)
Hi Phil, loved your UK show for years. Think your Australian show is great. But you seem to completely forget about Tasmania, it doesnt even appear on the map in the credits to the show! Poms move down here too, happy to discuss further. One last comment, why dont you move to Oz and do your show for all Australians? :-)
Love the Show Phill but I agree with Tassiepotter. At least put Tassie on the map. We moved to Tassie 5 years ago and know that it is not the most well known place in Oz but it still deserves to be acknowledged. Your map of Oz pops up multiple times during the show and everytime it annoys me that you have left us off.
I totally agree, how can you forget to include Tasmania on the map of Australia??? It is so wrong.
Hi Phil,
I'm a 27 year old wannabe investor and I'm totally addcited to all of your shows. I am paying off a home in Sydney's West and I am now planning on renting it out and purchsing a townhouse in Brisbane. I've found one I'm interested in although it is on by way of tender and currently there are no pets allowed in the complex (as are most townhouse complexes)(I have a small cat and dog). Would you suggest putting in a conditional tender bid on the pets being allowed? Or should I accept the fact I may have to lose my pets? Jen
Hi Phil, love your programs. I live in Perth and wish to sell and buy a house in Sydney to be near my daughter. I am a fairly well organised person but am concerned about how to 'time' the sale of the Perth house and the buying of the Sydney house. Can you help?
Hi Phil my wife and I live in the north of Tasmania and I have to say it's got the most beautiful scenery and unbelievable views etc. You would feel right at home looking around for houses here. Except the prices here are less than half the price of anywhere else. Love the show Scott and holly.
We have a natural rock house set on top of a mountain with 360 degree views set of 11 acres beautiful property just out of Melbourne. It is about 1hour to beaches and 1hr to Melbourne City.
We would like to sell and move on around Australia. It has a priece of History attached which I think your viewers would like. Hope to hear from you re your Uk buyers.
HI Elaine, I'm a Melbournian looking to upsize to a property with a few acres. Can I ask what suburb you are seeling the house in please?
Cheers
Anita
Hello Phil from a couple in Cairns, North Queensland. We have a double-storey brick home in the country between Edmonton and Gordonvale and want to sell it to deserving new owners. 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, polished floors, porcelain tiles, 6-9 bay shed, solar, rainwater tank, beautiful views of mountains and canefields, freshwater creek at rear, 15 mins drive to Cairns CBD. 8777m2 land. First time offered outside the family. Can your team help us to sell? - we want to move on.
Hi, I live in Scarborough on the Redcliffe Peninsula in Queensland. I have a 3 bed, 2.5 bathroom town house 200m from Queens Beach - great spot but need to sell to take care of elderley parents. Interested in taking it on?
hi phil. i own the worst house in australia its in zeehan tasmania.sadly we love it, you could start a show onplaces that are so beautiful with sad houses.
Hi Phil, You handle some tricky customers very well! Great display of patience from the recognised expert.
I love watching the banter between Phil and Kirsty, they make me chuckle. Also love Phil doing his own thing, shows his diversity! Who knew Phil married a great Australian girl, because I thought ( like everyone else) he was married to Kirsty.
Hi Phil I just love your shows, especially when you work with Kirsty. Is Kirsty coming down under as well. I thought she was. I agree with everyone who has made comment about the size of English houses - and the cost!!!!!! What sort of wages do they get over there? I would be scared about the upkeep of some of those houses that are around the 200 - 300 year mark! My house was built in the 60's and I am always on top of it.
There is a brilliant house just north of Byron Bay with a great sweeping view of the ocean, that Phil should absolutely see...(not mine). I know it's on the market to the right buyer, with the right budget.
Hi Phil, How do we get on the show in any way. How about giving a couple of expats a go. We love the show no we are in fact addicted need help. Email me I can give email address later. Cheers mate
Yes, think its time Phil showed us what he lives in ??? You have some beautiful old houses, but cannot understand how the Brits live those houses with low ceilings & those ugly exposed beams & also those three metre square apartments. How do you keep serious when you are offering these sardine tins to people to buy?? Love the show though !!!
Just started watching this show, but sorry Phil. Being a proud Melbournian as soon as you referred to Sydney as the "unofficial capital of Australia" you well & trully lost us!
Hi, our house was on the Phil Down Under show last year but the family chose another house. We then renovated and now want to sell again. Any interest in getting us back on the show?
What is it with the Brits and two storey houses? Personally I hate two storeys. Up and down stairs all the time. If you live next door or behind one you have no privacy at all. Brits, if you wanna come here, get with the program and live like we do! Love the show, love Phil. How about doing Adelaide and Tassie next time?
They've been squashed for space in all their history on their little isle, silly, that's the reason they like two storey houses. I've got one and the space and views are spectacular from the balconies. We're moving on so am going to ask Phil to sell it for me to some Brits who would love it here in tropical Cairns, North Queensland. He's absolutely fab - so mild mannered and personable and I watch all his shows with Kirsty
.
The new series features an episode in Adelaide
