Aged 8 and Wanting a Sex Change is an honest and powerful documentary which follows a number of children in the United States who believe they are the wrong gender. Eight year-old Josie was born a boy but has been living as a girl for two years since revealing the full extent of his feelings about his identity to his mother. Kyla is also eight. He was born a boy but loves anything pink and sparkly, has grown his hair and is preparing to return to school after summer dressed as a girl for the first time.
They have both been diagnosed with Gender Identity Disorder (GID). In the United States, children under 16 can be prescribed hormone 'blockers' to prevent the onset of puberty and prepare treatment to become their new gender. 16 year-old Chris, who was born a girl, started testosterone treatment at 14. He now has a deep voice, plentiful body hair and shaves regularly. These children and their parents reveal the emotional, life-changing journey that they face everyday, giving an eye-opening insight into a subject most people never have to consider.
Kyla was on tv again last night. She and Josie are trying to kid themselves and so ae the parents. What both need is a decent mother and father who set them straight with decent boys clothes and well cut hair. No nail polish and no telling them they are pretty girls. They are boys and that is that.
I feel sorry that people have to struggle through this condition it must be very confusing but shouldn't there be a legal age to start any treatments 8 and 14 just seem to young what happens if they regret there decision later on.
Creepy children and parents. Kyla and Josie are both boys and you can even tell it in their face Chris is repulsive and has female features in his face so has the the cheeky little 8 year old girl who shaved her head and does all the talking with the weird doctor. Give them all a mirror. They are kidding themselves. They should not be in an ordinary school
shut the *** up, I dont know what gender you are but just for a second pretend you're the other gender but still feel like the gender you actually are, we dont chose this! it is so unbelivably hard because of ignorant people like you
we arent freaks.
I commend the families and these children who bravely go public in an attempt to make known the condition that so often goes under the radar. What was so disconcerting was Gretel Killeen's voiceover that so disrespectfully refered to them as 'he' when they were clearly presenting as female and vice versa. It undermined the whole process. It truly ofended me.
