8 Boys And Wanting A Girl is an emotional and moving insight into what life is like for a family with many children of the same gender. Through the stories of five families, who are each desperate to have a girl after giving birth to several boys, the controversy surrounding sex-selection and society's notion of gender identity are explored.
We meet 37 year-old Michelle Priestly who loves all things girly and feminine and never imagined herself as a mum to four boys. She loves her children dearly, but is desperate for a daughter. Michelle has persuaded her husband Jason to give it one last try for a girl. As the cameras follow her journey Michelle’s anxiety is getting to her and her family.
For the Trathen and Burns families it has come to the highly controversial PGD (Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis) as they attempt to take control and stack the odds in their favour.

I don't agree with you all people. If this woman wants a daughter is her business and no body else. People that are talking about her, are not in her shoes. Life is one and its short. Why it is wrong to have a preference? The bond of a mother and a daughter is priceless. If her desire is to have a daughter, let her alone and don't be waisting any of your time criticiting. Instead, make a blessing for her, and that blessing will return to you. For those who can't conceive, just believe! Your wish may come true. Blessings and peace.
Agree, this is a selfish behavior, I like Izzy have been trying for along time with many troubles along the way.
Overall I am not bitter or resentful of others that can have children, but I do feel this show takes things to the next extreme.
Jacqui says well i was lucky enough to have a healthy boy and 18months later a gorgeous baby girl. However as my mother did not like girls and adored my 3 younger brothers and totally mistreated and neglected me I wanted a girl so bad that I honestly believe I may have felt like these women and may have kept having babies until I had my girl to change the pattern my mother created. Until you know these women personally I'm sure they all have a story to back their decisions up and shouldn't be turned into villians.
I do find these women selfish . I have had 10 failed IVF cycles, a miscarriage and then a hysterectomy and consequently have no children. I would do anything to have a child. Boy or girl. It doesn't matter. I just wanted to be a mother. these women assume a daughter will want to wear pink and play with dolls and do everything that is stereotypical about a girl. what pressure for that daughter. Why can't these women appreciate and be grateful for having healthy boys. Wake up to yourselves.
honey i would love to been able to give a woman a baby, to carry a child to help fulfill there yearning. my heart goes out to you xox
I totally agree. You should be grateful that you have kids, as there are women out there who would kill for a child, whatever gender. Who said that even if you did have a girl that she would be a girly princess like you want her to be? If you really want a girl that is just how you want her, go adopt. Plenty of girls out there.
Why? This is being selfish. I am unable to have children and find this disgusting.
