Even our very own pop star Kylie Minogue has spoken up about how much she loves the program. In a recent interview on 2Day FM when asked why she was so addicted to the program she said, "It's funny, it's touching, its enlightening and it's really well done. It's not just for amusement".
So, what makes the program such compulsive viewing?
According to Tina Flintoff, who commissioned the show for Channel 4, while the first documentary My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding was focused on the wedding, the team wanted to delve beyond the extravagant celebrations.
In a statement she said: “We wanted to enhance the series by adding more journalism and offering an even deeper insight into the gypsy and traveller way of life without losing what makes the show accessible, the weddings, christenings and spectacular celebrations.”
Each episode stands alone offering insight into attitudes toward gender roles, education and the non-gypsy or traveller community.
