Debbie Harrison, founder of BestDressedPets.com.au, explains that during the Summer we have to do to the thinking for our pets. “If we’re distressed by the heat, there’s a good chance your Pup needs some attention too. Certain breeds are more susceptible to heat stroke and dehydration, so follow a few common sense rules to avoid any serious danger this Summer,” says Debbie Harrison.
Tips for caring for your pets this summer:
• Dress Light: If dressing your pup, ensure clothes are a loose fit in summer. For thinned haired dogs, dress lightly and wear cap to prevent sunburn;
• Cool Down: The best way to protect your pet on a hot sunny day is to dress it up with cool bandanas, wet the bandanna and put around their neck;
• Slip, Slop, Slap: Skin cancer is the most common cancer among dogs, and putting a shirt on them to block harmful UV rays can help reduce their risk and apply sunscreen for noses and ears, at least SPF10;
• Well Timed Exercise: Keep exercise to a minimum, but if you do go for a walk, avoid going between 10am and 4pm which is the hottest period of the day;
