Peter Maddison is an award-winning architect and director of Maddison Architects Pty Ltd, a practice he started in 1988. With over 25 years experience, his projects include a huge range of award-winning residential and commercial projects (11 commendations and 26 architecture awards, including HIA Victorian Home of the Year 2009 and HIA Australian Home of the Year 2010).
An experienced architect who understands Australian architecture and our climate, culture and history, Peter took on the role of host of The LifeStyle Channel’s Australian production of Grand Designs in August 2009.
The first series of Grand Designs Australia was an outstanding success in 2010, becoming LifeStyle’s most successful local production ever. It won ASTRA Awards in 2011 for Most Outstanding Lifestyle Program and Best New Talent. The show was also nominated for a Logie for Most Popular Lifestyle Program; and won the 2011 Australian Institute of Architects National Award for Architecture in Media. Series two and three are currently in production.
With the ability to express complicated architectural features in simple terms, Peter is not afraid to speak his mind, and that honesty is very Australian.

For the last 18 months I’ve been travelling from the inner city to the remote outback, following a range of both weird and wonderful projects. These highlight that there are many solutions to housing in this country. Be they industrial, earth sheltered, in a sand dune or up a pole, the notion of experimentation is alive and well.”
Peter’s focus on holistic design has led to the development of close relationships and to the creation of many successful and awarded projects, which include a huge range of residential and commercial work, most recently specialising in hospitality and educational projects.
Peter regularly contributes to the profession’s development, with involvement at the Australian Institute of Architects, Heritage Council of Victoria, universities, and local communities.
