Blandfordia (Christmas Bells)

The festive colours and appearance of Blandfordia grandiflora, or Christmas Bells as it is more commonly known, makes this Australian native perennial a popular cut flower at Christmas time.

Don't be tempted to pick them from the bush as all species of Blandfordia are totally protected in the wild.

They are not difficult to grow. With any native it is best to duplicate their natural habitat. Christmas Bells do well in natural bush gardens or rockeries but if space is limited they will also do well in a pots.

Provide moist but well drained soil, full sun or partial shade and add a couple of teaspoons of slow release fertiliser to the mix.

Christmas Bells are available from specialist native nurseries.
