Updating 70s house for sale

Answered Wednesday 1 February 2012 |FacebookTwitter

QuestionAsk Shaynna

Have dark timber trim everywhere, built in robe doors, architraves, skirting boards, doors, window sills etc. Am I better off sanding it all back and painting with gloss white or just staining it in a chocolate-ish and relacquering it? Walls are all in either Antique White USA or Clay Pipe (Dulux colors)Flooring all needs replacing, so can get that to suit.

Answer

Hi Anita if you are talking a 70's house YES paint over it and save yourself from the gloom! I wouldnt go white as it will look 'grey' against the Antique White, stick with the Antique white and as you are going gloss it will appear a little lighter. If you are talking an Art Deco or Tudor house, these are a big feauture of the house and wouldnt recommend painting them white. cheers Shaynna Shaynna Blaze Interior Design Expert
