Oriental bowl
Answered Wednesday 7 December 2011 |Share:

Purchased this bowl in a second hand shop in London 15 years ago. Am interested in its origins, age and value.
Any assistance you can provide would be appreciated.
Answer
This is a Satuma pottery bowl, from Kyoto Japan, hard to date but judging from the rather pretty elaboration circa 1920/40
they were a prolific factory producing export pottery, many fine examples come from the early Meiji period, some are signed and worth many thousands, such refined detailing, this one is not of high value but very sweet.
