QuestionAsk Cherie

We've just moved into a new rental property and i want to create a beautiful room for my 2 yr old son. how can i do this with out spending heaps of money and without wrecking any of the walls. He loves trains, planes and cars. Thanks

Answer

Hi Bridgette, As its a rental property, you want to spend the minimal amount of money yet have something that's visually interesting for your little boy to look at. My 3 ways on what I'd do: 1) Go to Ikea and in the material section, buy some colourful funky fabric which you can make curtains out of. I did this recently, took the fabric to a alterations place and it cost me $30.00 to have the fabric looped over and sewn on one end and a hem on the other. Instant curtains! 2) Buy some stick on wall decals that have trains, planes and cars or an interesting kiddie print on them. Australian companies such as www.vinyldesign.com.au have a wide range for you to choose from. They're relatively low expense, can be removed once you vacate the property and look great! I'm a big fan of them as they add wow factor to a property. 3) Accessories - create a colourful room with playful, vibrant accessories. Again, Ikea is great for great kids items. Colourful desks, hammocks, cushions, storage containers, rugs, the list goes on and on. If you find great fabric, get the alterations person to whip you up some cushion covers too. This room should be really easy to do and at not much cost at all, in fact, no more than a few hundred dollars. Create the room together with your little boy so he feels like he's part of the process. I did this recently with my daughter and she loved the fun time we had shopping for everything, then coming home and putting it all in place! Cherie :) Cherie Barber Renovations Expert
