Internal skirting and doors
Answered Wednesday 8 December 2010 |Share:

Hi Shaynna, We have a 24 year brick veneer 38 sq Colonial look home built with a lot of wood, exposed brick wall in Study and beams in Rumpus and Study. We have painted out the beams and staircase struts to lessen the wood look. Should we also paint out the skirting , window frames, ledges and doors to make it more fashionable and blend in more to give a more spacious feel? Do you think this will improve the home sale price as we have retired and are looking to achieve max.
price.
Answer
Hi Christine
painting out the rest of the timber is more of a question of, will it make the house feel less cluttered. Having lots of timber 'lines' in the doors, archs and skirts, especially if the walls are a very light colour, can make the house feel 'busy'. As this is a colonial house the timber could add to the character of the house, if it takes away from the character, then I would paint them.
I hope that is easy to understand!
