Our home is very 70s style. We bought it in 2008 and renovated the common toilet and laundry and added a common bathroom.
I would dearly like to do a makeover to moderninse it, especially the lounge, family room, master bedroom and ensuite without breaking the bank. You can view it in original form at

I would like to know what kind of costs are involved in engaging an interior designer and what exactly do they do.
Also, is there any TV show in Australia like the 60 minute makeover in UK that we could apply to be included.

there are many different levels of costs for engaging a designer. It can range from a 2hr consult to get ideas and you take it from there, or you give a brief and they do a whole design and you arrange the works, or a whole design and they project manage. You can pay from $1,000 upwards depending on what you are after.
As for the 60min makeover, I have no idea of one in Australia, sorry!
