Historical fireplace or gas heater?
Answered Monday 6 April 2009 |
We have a 150 year old bluestone home in Williamstown that originally had a white marble overmantle which was destroyed in the 70s. I want to replace the wooden overmantle with marble but with a gas log heater inserted instead of the cast iron insert. Will this be out of keeping with the era of th house?
can I firstly say - I love Williamstown, it has such character.
There are many gas fireplaces that have period looking fireplaces. If you go to Jesmater/Heat and Glo you will see there range. The inefficiency and eco factors of real wood fires are turning alot of people to gas fires and you will find the large fireplace companies are adapting. So to answer your question - no it wont be out of place if you go for the new period design gas fireplacs.
