Fig Tree

QuestionAsk Charlie

Hi there. I live next door to a daycare centre who have several (what I believe) are fig trees. The photo attached is the one closest to the fence near our house. I have had a root barrier put in for piece of mind but it didn't look like it went in very deep. My worry is the roots, are they likely to go under the root barrier, how far do they travel, am I likely to have any damage etc. I have lots of questions and lots of worry. Any advice would be great.

Answer

Sorry i didn't get the picture but if its a fig tree planted by a fence line then there is no doubt it will encroach into your property as it ages. No root barrier will stop this from happening no matter how deep unless its made from reinforced concrete - sorry. Charlie Albone Landscaping Expert
