And moost of all, don’t underestimate the occasional rubbish clean up in your neighbourhood – it’s true what they say about one man’s trash being another man’s treasure!
BE PREPARED – First up, know what it is you’re looking for – the style, the colour, the size, your budget. Secondly take any tools (ie: a tape measure) you need to ensure you’re making the right choice. And thirdly, get your transport covered. If your car isn’t quite builder-friendly, check out the rental utes at your local service station – most offer their behicles for around $40 for the whole day.
NEGOTIATE - A lot of places that specialised in recylced goods are also cash only, so be sure to have enough on you. The fact that deals are done by cash also means your haggling skills can be put to the test. Don’t be afraid to negotialte on everything – they’ll be keen to get rid of the materials just as much as you want it!
BE PATIENT – If you’ve got a specific look you’re after, don’t expect to find it straight away. Be patient and the right one for your home will come along. It also wouldn’t hurt to have a chat to a few local recylce yards in your area – they might just call you up when something you’re after comes rolling in their warehouse doors!
