My energy efficient idea doesn't cost a cent!! Fine tune your house for the season you're in. In winter place large bottles (I use 3l fruit juice bottles) of water inside to absorb the heat which is releasesed overnight. If you have a wood fire place large (18l) boilers full of fresh water on top and harvest the water for that first cuppa thereby saving electricy or gas on boiling the kettle. I keep the boilers and bottles full in summer too. In summer don't open windows during the day - it heats the house!!. Instead open all the windows and even doors AT NIGHT and fill the house with cool air. Then keep the house sealed during the day. I've had it up to 15 degrees cooler inside here near the ACT.

The price for this advice is my standard two smiles.
    Regards
    Trevor
